Responsible Person
Sora Tanaka, Founder
Sora Tanaka is the founder and managing member of Tenki Link LLC. He is responsible for the site's content, data methodology, and editorial direction. Sora holds a master's degree in urban planning from the University of Tokyo and has spent five years mapping Tokyo's pedestrian wind corridors and microclimate variations through daily cycling observation.
Our Mission
Tenki Link exists to make Tokyo's climate system visible and understandable. We treat the 23 wards not as separate weather zones but as a connected network where heat flows, bay breezes, river corridors, and mountain gaps create links that most residents never see.
We believe that understanding these connections helps people make better decisions about when to travel, which routes to take, and how to stay comfortable in a city whose weather varies block by block. We also believe that systems thinking — seeing the city as an interconnected whole rather than a collection of isolated districts — leads to better urban planning, better policy, and a deeper appreciation for the complexity of the urban environment.
What We Do
We operate a website that displays a live network visualization of six Tokyo districts, connected by temperature differences calculated from real-time weather data. We publish detailed essays explaining the physical mechanisms that link these districts: heat island effects, sea breeze penetration, river corridor wind patterns, and mountain gap air flows.
We do not sell products. We do not display advertising. We do not collect or sell personal data. Our revenue, to the extent we have any, comes from the sale of detailed climate linkage guides (PDF documents) that expand on the topics covered in our free essays. These guides are optional; all core content on the site is freely available.
Our Approach
We combine three sources of knowledge: numerical weather data from the Open-Meteo API, professional thermal modeling by our co-founder Maya Lin (an environmental engineer), and field observation by our team and contributors. We verify our claims through direct measurement where possible, and we acknowledge uncertainty where the data is incomplete.
We are not a meteorological service. We do not issue forecasts or warnings. We are an educational and informational resource that explains how Tokyo's climate system works, using live data to illustrate the connections we describe.
Transparency Commitments
We publish a How We Link page that explains our methodology in detail, including how we source data, how we calculate temperature differences, and how we render the network visualization. We maintain a Fix Log that records corrections to our content with dates. We do not delete or alter published content without noting the change.
We have no affiliation with the Japan Meteorological Agency, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, or any academic institution. We are an independent project run by three people who care about understanding and explaining the city's climate system.
